Podere Provinca

The Podere lies about one kilometer outside the village Micciano. Micciano is an artistic Toscan village, situated on the top of a hill, 473 meters above sea level. The village lies above the rivers Trossa and Cecina and offers a panoramic view on Libbiano, the forest of Monterufoli, Pomarance and Volterra. You can even see the Mediterranean of Cecina and in the north the tops of the Apennines. Historical sites are not available in Micciano, but this is not necessary as the environment is full of art and history.

Volterra

This old Etruscan city is about a half hour drive from Micciano. It is still like Dr. L van Egeraat, a Dutch historican wrote in 1953:

"Volterra, a unique city,is almost unspoiled by tourism, but a lot nicer then other Toscan places except for Firenze and Siena!. It lies on the road from Cécina, to Poggibonsi (the SS68) . The road "Cécina – Volterra" is extraordinarily beautiful, one of the most beautiful in all of Italy. You should drive it heading east to west because the the view on Volterra fully comes to its right. Suddenly the highest hill top appears, about 600 meters above sea level, the unforgettable Volterra. The city walls, are about 12, 15 meters high, forming a band around the hill top. The view is amazing. The town lying within has kept its Medieval atmosphere. The city is darker, and more threatening then S. Gimignano, but a lot more beautiful."

Florence

Firenze in the heart of Tuscany, is the center of the Renaissance and the Italian language of Dante, Petrarca and Bocaccio. While other European cities still lived in the Middle ages, the renaissance developed under the control of the Medici. Now you can admire the works of artists such as Botticelli, Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci in the world famous museums (the Uffizi, the Academia, Palazzo Pitti), in beautiful churches, or even while walking around the city of Florence. The Ponte Vecchio connects the lively historic centre around the Duomo with the more quiet part on the other side of the Arno river. Florence is characterized by beautiful squares, like the Piazza della Repubblica and the Piazza della Signoria, by narrow roads and medieval lanes, different markets and above all the dome of the Duomo, which stands above everything else. Florence had everything to make you feel at home, history, the Toscan cuisine, the best Italian wines, many bars and discotheques, a car- free centre and many inviting shops.

Siena

Surrounded by hills, olive trees and the Chianti wine areas, Siena is for many the most beautiful medieval city of Tuscany. The city is car- free and in the heart of the city lies the Piazza del Campo, where religious feasts and colorful festivals are celibrated. Siena has a lot to offer for art lovers: the Duomo, the Palazzo Pubblico and the former hospital St. Maria della Scala, which now serves as a cultural centre. Apart from the beautiful monuments, you can experience the charm of Siena outside of its more touristic paths, the twisting streets and the steep stairs, that connect the three hills of the city. Siena is famous for its historic horse race "the Palio", a folkloric event, that takes place every year on the second of July and on the sixteenth of August.Siena contains one of the oldest universities in Europe, with students from all over the world. Apart from the lively everyday life in the streets and piazza’s of the city, Siena offers many cultural events such as theatre, concerts and movies, and has many sport facilities.
